"The project intends to respond to the programatic problem the site poses on two levels: giving a new urban meaning to the ancient dock reclaming it permanently to the city life, and re-qualifying the existing platforms and buildings.
The plastic richness of the place, together with the tides phenomenon, suggested the construction of an urban metaphor, a liveable sculpture that constitutes a piece of land art capable of varied experiences. Instead of a vacant, empty space, the project proposes an urban device where the water reflux and its varying height are key elements af composition.
The proposal includes the construction of a number of fragmented platfoms, with various materials, textures and colors, reproducing the pictorial richness os the existing site, and related to the materials palette associated to shipbuilding: asphalt, granite, iron, woodship, cobble, sand, water.
In the western edge of the terrain a free plan, organic volume was proposed. The intersection between the enclosed areas and the shape of the roof allows different relationships between teh interior and exterior of the building.
